Web Analytics doesn’t get the caveman law

Bob Nieme forwarded me a link today about the four digital laws, a post by Greg Satell about the use of data and how he felt Steve Jobs had done well with his use. It came from just after Steve had passed away.

The four digital laws are:

•  Kryder’s Law – storage capacity doubles every twelve months
• Moore’s Law – processing speed doubles every eighteen months to two years
• Nielsen’s Law – bandwidth doubles about every twenty one months (usually in big jumps rather than progressively)
• The Caveman Law – “Whenever there is a conflict between modern technology and the desires of our primitive ancestors, these primitive desires win each time”

Greg is talking about technology and how these rules follow, particularly for things like the iPhone where usability and user experience were key decision makes (not it should be pointed out exploiting the limitations of the technology).
